Study Tour in Siem Reap on 12~14th February 2021

Early in the morning of February 12, Mr. Sida went to Battambang Province to pick up the participants, and the study tour started with a total of 9 participants, 5 from Prey Priel village and 4 from Taguneng village.

The day of the trip went smoothly, without the effects of corona infection prevention regulations, which had been a concern.

Visit to Sasalsudam Village (commune)

On the way, we visited a food stall selling yakitori (grilled chicken) with members of the saving group, and then visited the village of Sasalusudam, which operates a small saving group, and listened to an explanation while looking at an actual pocketbook (similar to a bank book).

Everyone was very interested in learning about the saving system for the first time and listened intently to the explanation, but Ms. Sida added that it may look easy but in reality it can be difficult, which is why training is necessary for everyone to participate in the beginning, not just committee members.

Visit to Kien Sanke Commune

We visited a village where poultry farming is conducted and chickens are shipped to the market, and Mr. Seray, the owner, explained how poultry farming is conducted.

He told us that a fertilized egg incubator is necessary for the initial stage of poultry farming, and that the one used in this commune is a large and expensive one. Mr. Sida agreed to help us find a smaller and easier-to-use incubator.

Visit to Cirei Tubong Village

We visited a couple who are members of the Serving Group and who are using saving to develop various businesses, and they explained to us in detail how large-scale saving works and how they conduct their businesses.

The husband acts as a trainer to teach other villagers how to grow local vegetables and rice, how to make compost, and how to sell safe vegetables at the market in Siem Reap, and has knowledge of how to distribute the crops they produce.

His wife also works as a middleman organizing and distributing groups of poultry farmers to the market, and she shared her expertise with us.

The couple's talk was very concrete, detailed, and based on their actual experiences, and was easy to understand.

Finally, we visited an eco-village located around a beautiful lake. This village is operated as a tourist village where the environment is maintained for tourists and they are treated with fresh local food.

The beautiful scenery and delicious Khmer udon noodles were a welcome treat.
